A clear crystal elephant carrying a howdah of ruby, emerald and sapphire glass, banded in gold, standing on a gilded oval base — with the trunk raised for luck. Legs, ears, trunk and tail are all pulled by hand from hot glass in a matter of seconds; the coloured bands are applied while the body is still glowing.
This is the ornament customers pick up and turn over. It works on a tree, but it also sells year-round as a figurine — which is why museum shops, airport retail and heritage stores order it in volume and keep it on the shelf long after December. The raised trunk is a gifting story in almost every culture. Supplied with its gold hanging cord.
