The centrepiece mabkhara for the majlis — 35 cm of hand-blown, hand-engraved glass.

Burj, “tower”, is built in tiers the way a minaret rises: a tall trumpet foot with a gold-rimmed base and two fine gold bands, a clear glass knop, a flared bowl that holds the charcoal, a wide ruffled collar with a gold-lined scalloped edge, and above it an onion-shaped chamber that gathers the smoke and lets it out through a slender chimney neck ringed in gold. A small side vent keeps the ember breathing. The chamber is wheel-engraved by hand with a floral and leaf motif and highlighted in 24K liquid gold, so the pattern glows when the bakhoor smoke fills the glass.

This is the piece for the window, the hotel lobby and the Ramadan gift that has to impress: one Burj on a majlis console does what three smaller burners cannot. Importers take it in a single colour for a campaign, or in the full range for a display.

Every piece is mouth-blown and engraved by one craftsman in our Cairo workshop. The engraving, the ruffle and the gold brushwork vary slightly from piece to piece — the signature of genuine handmade glass.
