A sphere of clear glass, scattered with gold — Thurayya is named after the Pleiades.
Each bead is a drop of molten glass placed by hand on the hot sphere, then tipped with 24K liquid gold. The recessed cup at the top takes a standard tealight; when it is lit, every bead catches the flame and the whole ball glows. Simple enough for a restaurant table, special enough for a wedding or a Christmas window.
Hand-blown in Cairo from heat-resistant borosilicate glass. Sold singly for gift shops and interiors, by the dozen for event planners and wedding tables.
