1. Hand-blown vs machine-made: know what you're selling

Machine-made bottles are identical, cheap and everywhere — fine for mass retail. Hand-blown bottles carry weight, light and tiny variations that read instantly as luxury; they justify a premium retail price and photograph beautifully. Many successful brands use machine bottles for their main line and hand-blown glass for limited editions, gift sets and their Gulf market range.

2. What to check on the glass itself

  • Colour in the melt, not coated — coated colour peels; fused colour is permanent.
  • Real gold work — hand-applied gilding on collars and patterns, not gold-tone paint.
  • Proper annealing — stress-relieved glass that survives freight (ask how long the cooling cycle is).
  • Stopper fit — for attar and oil perfumes, a ground-glass stopper or dabber that seats cleanly.

3. Order quantities and pricing — what's normal
