Wholesale Candle Holders & Votives: A Buyer's Guide for Importers and Gift Retailers
Candle holders are the quiet workhorses of the giftware trade. They sell in every season, suit almost every retail concept from concept stores to hotel boutiques, and — because a customer rarely buys just one — they lift average order values without any effort from your sales floor. For importers, hand-blown glass votives and candle holders also offer something increasingly rare: a handmade story at a price point that still leaves comfortable margin at retail.
This guide covers what wholesale buyers should look for when sourcing hand-blown candle holders from our workshop in Cairo, where we have been producing and exporting Egyptian glass since 2011 — fifteen years of shipping to more than 30 countries.
Know the Formats Before You Order
“Candle holder” covers several distinct product families, and the right mix depends on your market. Votives are small cups designed for tealights — the entry price point and the impulse purchase. Hurricane-style holders and larger vessels frame pillar candles and command a premium on the shelf. Stemmed and footed holders photograph beautifully for tablescaping content, while lantern-inspired shapes carry the Middle Eastern design signature that international buyers come to Egypt for in the first place. You can see the current range in our candle holders collection, and many buyers round out the order with complementary pieces from our home décor collection so the shelf tells one coherent story.
What to Check Before Committing to a Container
Hand-blown glass is not a commodity, and a good wholesale order starts with a short technical checklist:
- Wall thickness and stability. A votive that wobbles is a return waiting to happen. Hand-blown pieces should sit flat and feel substantial for their size.
- Heat behaviour. Confirm the holder is intended for tealights or pillar candles as appropriate. Proper annealing — the slow, controlled cooling of each piece — is what prevents stress cracks when the candle burns down.
- Colour consistency across a batch. Because colour is worked into the melt rather than sprayed on, expect charming variation piece to piece, but the palette across a carton should read as one family.
- Sizing tolerance. Handmade means ±5–10% on dimensions is normal. Build that into any packaging or candle-pairing plans.
- Packing standard. Ask how each piece is wrapped and cartoned for export. Our transit terms are simple: any breakage in transit is replaced or credited.
Colour Strategy: The Advantage of Mixed Colours at No Extra Charge
Most factories force a colour decision at the MOQ level, which pushes buyers into safe, conservative choices. We structure it differently: our minimum is 30 pieces in total, and you can mix models and colours freely at no extra charge. In practice this means a gift shop buyer can take one votive shape in amber, cobalt, emerald and clear — and let the sell-through data decide the reorder, rather than guessing an entire carton's worth of one colour up front.
Margins, Tiers and Landed Cost
Wholesale pricing on our range is tiered by volume: 12% off list at 100–499 pieces, 20% off at 500–4,999, and contract pricing for programmes of 5,000 pieces and above. Candle holders pack densely and nest well, so freight cost per unit is among the lowest in the handmade glass category — a meaningful point when you are calculating landed cost against a target retail multiple. Full terms, including how tiers apply across mixed orders, are on our wholesale page.
Timing Your Order Around the Selling Seasons
Production runs 15–25 days from confirmed order, before transit. That makes timing straightforward but unforgiving: candle season peaks from October through the December holidays, so autumn and Christmas programmes should be confirmed by late summer. If you are building a holiday assortment, pair your candle holder order with pieces from our Christmas 2026 collection in the same shipment — one consolidation, one freight bill, one coherent seasonal story on your shelf. Wedding and event season (spring through early autumn in most of our markets) is the second wave, where stemmed holders and votives in white, gold and clear dominate.
Private Label and Custom Work
Chains, candle brands and hospitality buyers often need more than a catalogue product: a specific Pantone in the melt, an engraved logo, gilded rims, or a custom shape sized to a proprietary candle. Our workshop handles OEM and ODM projects — from adjusting an existing mould to developing a piece from your sketch. Details and the project process are on our custom OEM/ODM page.
Test the Quality Before You Commit
No photograph tells you how a hand-blown piece feels in the hand — the weight, the fire-polished rim, the way colour moves through the glass. That is what the sample box is for.
The Sample Box brings eight of our best-selling pieces, including candle holders, to your desk for $169, shipped worldwide by DHL Express in 3–5 days — and the shipping cost is credited back against your first bulk order.
